2026 Fantasy Football Week 2 Defense Rankings: Top DST Streamers and Starts

Week 1 of the 2026 NFL season is in the books, and it was a wild one. Games averaged a staggering 53.3 points, the highest-scoring Week 1 in league history. While one week of data isn't enough to draw firm conclusions, it's crucial to adjust our priors and learn from what we saw on the field. As the Vulius NFL Analysis Desk breaks down, questions abound: Is the Raiders defense legit or are the Dolphins just bad? Will the Browns offense make every defense look elite? Is the Steelers defense back to its dominant ways or is Cooper Rush that inept? These are the puzzles we must solve to nail our Week 2 fantasy defense rankings.

Week 1 Recap and Methodology

Each week, Vulius Sports provides not just rankings but the reasoning behind them. Our tiers range from elite plays (Tier 1) to defenses to avoid entirely (Tier 5). We track our success rate in predicting top-10 defenses, and after Week 1, we sit at 4-6. Our Best Overall Defense (BOD) formula incorporates seven key metrics: first downs allowed, points per game allowed, third-down conversion rate allowed, pressure rate, passes defended, turnover rate, and explosive play rate allowed. We also factor in Vegas implied team totals and fantasy points allowed to opposing defenses. This data-driven approach helps us identify the best streaming options each week.

Tier 1: Elite Plays

Philadelphia Eagles (vs. Tennessee Titans): The Eagles disappointed in Week 1, but the Titans looked dreadful. Cam Ward hasn't shown much progress, and Tennessee's offense is struggling. Expect Philadelphia to bounce back in a big way.

San Francisco 49ers (vs. Miami Dolphins): The 49ers dominated in Australia, pressuring Matthew Stafford and limiting big plays. Now they face a Dolphins offense that was brutal against the Raiders. Malik Willis held the ball too long and took bad sacks; expect more of the same.

Seattle Seahawks (vs. Arizona Cardinals): Seattle's defense smothered the Patriots in Week 1 and could get safety Nick Emmanwori back. The Cardinals' offensive line has question marks that Seattle will exploit.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (vs. Cleveland Browns): The Bucs defense wasn't great against the Bengals, but the Browns offense is a different story. Deshaun Watson and a subpar O-line make Cleveland a juicy target.

Tier 2: Strong Plays

New England Patriots (vs. Pittsburgh Steelers): The Patriots defense was fine in Week 1, and the Steelers offense looked mediocre. Aaron Rodgers was 0-for-6 on deep passes, and Christian Gonzalez should shadow DK Metcalf. This could be a low-scoring rock fight.

Baltimore Ravens (vs. New Orleans Saints): The Saints hung with the Lions, but the Ravens defense is a different beast. Tyler Shough struggled in the first half, and the Saints' reliance on Devaughn Vele won't work against Baltimore.

Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. Denver Broncos): The Jaguars are a solid defense, and the Broncos offense looked bad on Monday night. Bo Nix made poor decisions, and the play-calling was questionable. Jacksonville could sneak into the top 10.

Tier 3: Borderline Plays

Pittsburgh Steelers (vs. New England Patriots): T.J. Watt looked great, and the Steelers spent big on defense. But Joey Porter Jr.'s status is uncertain, and the Patriots offense is average without A.J. Brown. This is more of a gut call.

Los Angeles Rams (vs. New York Giants): The Rams got no pressure in Week 1 and lost Myles Garrett to IR. The Giants looked better than expected, but Jaxson Dart will take chances. This is a stiffer test for New York.

Tier 4: Deep-League Targets

Houston Texans (vs. Cincinnati Bengals): The Texans were lit up by the Bills, but they're better than that. Facing Joe Burrow is tough, but in deeper formats, they're viable.

Denver Broncos (vs. Jacksonville Jaguars): The Broncos defense is better than it showed against the Chiefs. The Jaguars are a tough matchup, but Denver can be streamed in deep leagues.

Atlanta Falcons (vs. Carolina Panthers): The Falcons impressed in Week 1 with top-10 pressure and third-down rates. The Panthers are missing offensive linemen and benefited from garbage time against the Bears.

Los Angeles Chargers (vs. Las Vegas Raiders): The Chargers didn't look good in Week 1 and miss Jesse Minter. The Raiders are improved with a healthy Ashton Jeanty, but Kirk Cousins' bad throws make the Chargers a decent play.

Tier 5: Defenses to Avoid

Kansas City Chiefs (vs. Indianapolis Colts): The Chiefs looked great on Monday, but the Colts have a solid O-line and Jonathan Taylor. Not enough sacks or turnovers expected.

Green Bay Packers (vs. New York Jets): The Jets offense is better than advertised, and the Packers aren't elite. Without Josh Jacobs, this game could stay close, limiting garbage-time opportunities.

Carolina Panthers (vs. Arizona Cardinals) and Arizona Cardinals (vs. Carolina Panthers): Both face backup QBs (Cooper Rush and Drew Lock), but neither defense is strong enough to trust.

Cincinnati Bengals (vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers): The Bengals' Week 1 performance was likely a fluke, and the Browns offense will put them in bad spots.

Las Vegas Raiders (vs. Los Angeles Chargers): The Raiders benefited from a weak Week 1 opponent. Don't trust them against even an average offense.

As always, avoid any defense in Tier 5. For more detailed analysis, check out the Vulius Sports YouTube channel. Stay tuned for weekly updates and adjust your lineups accordingly.
