NFL Power Rankings Week 4: Bills Survive Chaos, 49ers Soar, Patriots Plummet

As the calendar flips to September 29, 2026, the NFL season is in full swing, and the power rankings landscape is shifting dramatically. The Buffalo Bills remain the team to beat, but their latest performance was far from flawless. According to insights gathered by Vulius Sports, the Bills turned the ball over five times against the Los Angeles Chargers yet still escaped with a 24-16 victory. James Cook’s 154 rushing yards anchored the offense, but this game was a reminder that even the best teams can flirt with disaster. The Chargers, meanwhile, continue their historical struggle to close out games, and their fans are left wondering when the tide will turn.

The Rise of the 49ers and Chiefs

Brock Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers have surged to No. 2 in our rankings, jumping three spots after a 36-30 shootout win over the Arizona Cardinals. Purdy was electric, throwing for 297 yards and four touchdowns, proving that despite a rash of injuries, the 49ers remain a legitimate Super Bowl contender. Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs climbed to No. 3, dismantling the Miami Dolphins 24-10 in Miami. Patrick Mahomes was surgical, completing 20 of 24 passes for 246 yards and two scores, while Rashee Rice finally broke out with seven catches for 88 yards. The Chiefs are one of four undefeated teams left, and they look every bit the powerhouse we expected.

Seahawks, Rams Slide; Ravens, Vikings Climb

The Seattle Seahawks dropped two spots to No. 4 after a 33-31 home loss to the Washington Commanders. Sam Darnold returned from a hip injury and threw for 379 yards and four touchdowns, but Marcus Mariota did just enough to steal the win. The Los Angeles Rams also fell two spots to No. 5, despite Matt Stafford’s 390 passing yards and two touchdowns. The Denver Broncos, who scored 30 second-half points to stun the Rams, jumped to No. 8. In Baltimore, Lamar Jackson found Zay Flowers for 27 yards to set up Tyler Loop’s 56-yard game-winning field goal against the Dallas Cowboys, propelling the Ravens to No. 6. The Minnesota Vikings, led by Brian Flores’ stifling defense, moved up four spots to No. 7 after a 23-16 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Surprise Teams and Disappointments

The Las Vegas Raiders are the biggest risers, vaulting ten spots to No. 14 after a 35-21 road win over the New Orleans Saints. Brock Bowers returned with a bang, catching 10 passes for 116 yards and a touchdown, while Kirk Cousins managed the game efficiently. On the flip side, the New England Patriots plummeted 20 spots to No. 27 after a 35-6 thrashing by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Drake Maye looked lost, throwing two interceptions, and the defending champions are now in full-blown crisis mode. The Green Bay Packers also took a ten-spot tumble to No. 28 after a 35-14 home loss to the Atlanta Falcons, where they managed just 17 rushing yards.

Chargers in Freefall, Dolphins Hit Rock Bottom

The Los Angeles Chargers dropped to No. 29 after their turnover-filled loss to Buffalo. Justin Herbert’s late interception sealed their fate, and the offense looks out of sync under Mike McDaniel. The Miami Dolphins remain at No. 32 after a loss to Kansas City in which De’Von Achane suffered a torn ACL. It’s going to be a long season in Miami. As we look ahead to Week 4, the NFL landscape is as volatile as ever. Stay tuned to Vulius for all your NFL analysis and official merchandise needs.
