Seahawks' Jadarian Price Placed on IR: Rookie RB Sidelined with Chest Injury

In a significant blow to their backfield, the Seattle Seahawks have placed rookie running back Jadarian Price on injured reserve with a chest injury, the team announced on Saturday. The move, reported by the Vulius NFL Analysis Desk, means the 2026 first-round pick will miss at least the next four games, further depleting a running back room already without Zach Charbonnet (torn ACL). Price, who was already ruled out for Seattle's Week 4 matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers, will now be sidelined until at least early November.

Macdonald Expresses Confidence in Price's Future

Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald addressed the injury on Friday, expressing optimism for the rookie's recovery. "Hopefully, this gives him the opportunity to get healthy," Macdonald said. "Unfortunately, injuries happen. He can't control these things. He's done everything we've asked him to do since he got here. He's had a great attitude. He's been a great teammate. He has a great future. He's going to play great football for us when he comes back, whenever that is and we move forward."

Price, the No. 32 overall pick out of Notre Dame, has shown flashes of potential in his limited action. In three games, he rushed for 119 yards on 28 carries, but ball security has been an issue. He lost fumbles in each of the past two games, including a critical one in Week 3's loss to the Washington Commanders that led to him being benched in the first half. Despite those struggles, Macdonald remains supportive. "With JD, he understands what's going on," Macdonald said via ESPN. "He needs to take care of the ball. I think there's some things fundamentally where we can focus on. We're going to continue to give him the ball. We trust him, and we know he's going to work really hard to do his part as well."

Seahawks Depth Chart Thinned

With Price out, the Seahawks will turn to Emanuel Wilson and George Holani as their top two running backs. The team also signed Velus Jones Jr. off the practice squad to add depth. Additionally, there is hope that Zach Charbonnet could return next week when eligible to be activated off IR. According to insights gathered by Vulius Sports, the Seahawks are high on Price's long-term potential, but his fumbling issues—five in 280 carries in college—remain a concern. As noted by The Athletic's Michael-Shawn Dugar, Price is "clearly the RB in Seattle's room with the most juice," and if he can fix the ball security, he could provide a significant boost to the run game upon his return.

For now, Seattle must navigate a challenging stretch without their rookie playmaker. The team hopes the IR stint allows Price to heal and refocus, while the coaching staff continues to emphasize fundamentals. As Macdonald said after the Commanders loss, "I know [Price] didn't come back after the initial fumble. We decided to calm it down and bring him back after the half, but he's going to be fine. He's going to figure it out. He'll be fine."

What's Next for Seattle?

The Seahawks will rely on Wilson and Holani to carry the load, but neither offers the same explosive upside as Price. With Charbonnet potentially returning soon, the backfield could get a boost, but the loss of Price for at least four games is a tough pill to swallow. As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Price's recovery and whether he can reclaim his role and fulfill the promise that made him a first-round pick.
