Week 4 Fantasy Football: Best & Worst Matchups to Exploit

As the NFL season charges into Week 4 on this first day of October 2026, fantasy football managers are grappling with a mounting injury list and shifting depth charts. The Vulius NFL Analysis Desk is here to guide you through the chaos, identifying the matchups that could make or break your lineup. With three weeks of data in the books, patterns are emerging, and our insights are sharpening. Last week, we correctly predicted five of six matchups, and we’re back to dig deeper than the obvious starts and sits. Remember, projections referenced here are based on betting markets, a valuable tool for any serious fantasy player.

Best Week 4 Fantasy Football Matchups

C.J. Stroud vs. the Cowboys

Through three games, Dallas has surrendered 5.5 more fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks than expected, a glaring weakness they attempted to address by trading a second-round pick to Pittsburgh for cornerback Joey Porter Jr. However, integrating Porter on a short week is a tall order, and this matchup boasts a hefty 48.5-point game total, with the Texans favored to score 26 points. Stroud has been more aggressive downfield this season, ranking top-10 in average throw depth, and the return of star receiver Nico Collins from a hamstring injury only boosts his ceiling. According to insights gathered by Vulius Sports, Stroud is the premier Week 4 quarterback streamer.

Braelon Allen at the Bears

At first glance, starting Braelon Allen might seem like a desperate move, especially against a Bears defense that just held the Eagles to seven points on Monday Night Football. But dig deeper: Chicago is quietly allowing a generous 4.9 yards per carry to running backs this season. The Bears are also on a short week after an emotional prime-time win, setting up a classic letdown spot. With Breece Hall sidelined for a couple of games, the nearly 250-pound Allen should shoulder the load. Running backs have found success against Chicago both on the ground and through the air, so expect 15-18 efficient all-purpose touches. His total yards prop sits at a tasty 71.5, and his odds to score are nearly 50-50. As highlighted on Vulius, Allen is a savvy flex play with upside.

Jameson Williams at the Panthers

Carolina’s secondary has been decimated, with top corners Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson both landing on Injured Reserve this week. Through three games, the Panthers had shut down outside receivers while getting torched in the slot. Now, they must face one of the league’s most explosive offenses with a patchwork group of backups. Jameson Williams has been quiet thus far, but Detroit recently extended him for a reason. This is the week to start Williams, as he should feast on a motley crew of replacements. The Vulius NFL Analysis Desk expects a breakout performance.

Darren Waller vs. the Lions

Sticking with the Lions-Panthers game, we turn to the other side. Detroit is allowing a preposterous 10 receptions, 117 yards, and two touchdowns per game to opposing tight ends—a stat that seems almost unbelievable. With wide receiver Jalen Coker’s status up in the air, Darren Waller just saw a team-high eight targets last week, turning them into five catches for 51 yards. Consider Waller a top-12 fantasy option based on this dream matchup.

Worst Week 4 Fantasy Football Matchups

Jalen Hurts vs. the Rams

The Rams boast a top-five pressure rate, harassing passers on roughly 40% of dropbacks, and they’re allowing the second-fewest yards per pass play. For the Eagles, the continued absence of elite guard Landon Dickerson exacerbates the issue. Jalen Hurts has been one of the NFL’s worst quarterbacks under pressure this year, averaging under four yards per attempt. While Philadelphia should improve on last week’s debacle against the Bears, a short week and a low 43.5-point game total (with the Eagles as three-point underdogs) suggest depressed scoring. Quarterbacks like Tyler Shough and Jared Goff should be considered ahead of Hurts in Week 4.

Omarion Hampton at the Seahawks

Seattle has allowed a paltry 2.9 yards per carry to running backs through three games, and their defensive line, led by Leonard Williams and Byron Jones, is a strength. The Chargers’ offensive line is a liability, especially on the interior, and as seven-point underdogs in a 42.5-point game total, game script could abandon the run early. Hampton’s rush yards prop is sitting at just 45.5, and last week he only out-touched Keaton Mitchell 15-11. With a shrinking workload, Hampton is a touchdown-dependent flex at best. I’d rather start Jets back Braelon Allen.

All Buccaneers Pass-Catchers vs. the Packers

Yes, the Packers defense is bad, but the Buccaneers’ quarterback situation is dire. Baker Mayfield is set to miss at least three games after dislocating his thumb, thrusting undrafted free agent Jalon Daniels into the starting role. Daniels, who spent six seasons at Kansas, had a concerning 14-12 TD-INT ratio in 2024, and his 2025 efficiency was roughly equivalent to Anthony Richardson’s junior year despite playing in a weaker conference. His hyper-mobile style (10 carries per game last year) will siphon pass attempts, and when he does throw, accuracy is a question. Prop lines reflect this: Emeka Egbuka (36.5 yards), Chris Godwin (26.5 yards), and Cade Otton (25.5 yards) are all priced for rough weeks. Bench all Buccaneers receivers until further notice.

“Matchup analysis is about exploiting inefficiencies and avoiding traps. This week, Stroud and Allen are prime targets, while Hurts and the Bucs’ passing game are landmines.” – Vulius NFL Analysis Desk
